Adrian Newey’s Aston Martin package is worth up to £30m ($39.8m) a year, the figure the BBC reported when he signed. His bonuses are already inside that number, so nothing gets added on top, and the team has never said how much of the total is fixed salary.
Kursiv’s April 2026 list had him on €37m ($42.2m), more than four times the €8m ($9.1m) it gave Toto Wolff. Newey also joined as a shareholder, and that stake sits apart from his pay.

What Each Point Now Costs Red Bull
Newey holds two titles in 2026. As team principal he runs the race team, and as Managing Technical Partner he still steers the car’s concept, so both sides of the operation lead back to him. Lawrence Stroll sits above him as executive chairman.
Chief technical officer Enrico Cardile coordinates development day to day, and Andy Cowell, team principal in 2025, now handles the power unit and fuel partnerships. Newey’s selling point is championship-winning design for three different teams, although this is the first F1 team he’s ever run.
Secondary record of Newey's career dates at March, Leyton House, Williams, McLaren, Red Bull, and Aston Martin.

No other F1 team principal comes close to Newey’s pay. Toto Wolff tops the bands for the job on £4m-7m ($5.3m-9.3m) at Mercedes, and Frédéric Vasseur is on £3m-6m ($4m-8m) at Ferrari. Newey’s package is more than four times the top of Wolff’s range because Aston Martin was paying for a designer first.
Newey joined Fittipaldi straight out of Southampton in 1980 and went on to design title-winning cars for Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull before Aston Martin hired him.
Newey is the best-paid figure on Aston Martin‘s staff pages by a distance, and he answers only to Lawrence Stroll, whose $3.7bn fortune comes from ownership rather than wages. Chief technical officer Enrico Cardile is next on the technical side with a band of £500k-2m ($663k-2.7m), and Newey’s package can reach 15 times the top of it.
Adrian Newey is paid up to £30m ($39.8m) a year by Aston Martin, the package the BBC reported when he signed, and it already includes his bonuses. The team hasn’t confirmed how the money splits between salary and incentives. Kursiv’s April 2026 list went higher still and put him on €37m ($42.2m).
Red Bull hired Adrian Newey away from McLaren for 2006, after Christian Horner persuaded him to join a team that had never won a race. Horner’s own account, extracted in The Times, is headlined with a £6m ($7.95m) offer, although it isn’t clear whether that was annual pay or a total.
Yes, the up to £30m ($39.8m) reported for Adrian Newey includes his bonuses, so there’s no extra bonus to add. Nobody has published how much of it depends on results. His shareholding in the team is a separate matter and isn’t part of that pay figure.
Adrian Newey came back to F1 through March, the company that had sent him to American racing in the first place. After IndyCar seasons with March, Kraco, and Newman Haas, he returned in 1988 as chief designer of March’s F1 team, and within two years Williams had hired him.
About £50m ($66.3m) is our figure for Adrian Newey’s net worth, the midpoint of the £40m-60m ($53m-79.5m) range Motorsport Week published in June 2026. It’s a low-confidence number with no asset breakdown behind it, and the size of his Aston Martin shareholding isn’t public.
The BBC reported that Adrian Newey signed with Aston Martin for at least five years. He started on March 1, 2025, but no end date has been published, and no separate term has been announced for the team principal job he added in 2026.
