Alexandre Iliopoulos is on a base salary of £100k-180k ($133k-239k) at Racing Bulls, our band for a Formula 1 race engineer in 2026. Bonuses of £10k-54k ($13k-72k) would bring his year to £110k-234k ($146k-310k).
This is his first season running a car after a decade at the team in performance roles, and Racing Bulls hasn’t said what the promotion is worth. For scale, Liam Lawson‘s own reported base is $1m, about four times the top of his engineer’s band.

What Each Point Now Costs Red Bull
Racing Bulls promoted Iliopoulos to race engineer for 2026 and put him on Liam Lawson‘s car. He manages the New Zealander’s setup work and feedback between sessions, and during races he’s the voice relaying the team’s calls over the radio.
He isn’t new to the team. Iliopoulos arrived in 2016 from Michelin and spent the following seasons in trackside and senior performance engineering, the data jobs that feed a race engineer. Pierre Hamelin runs the other car, and team principal Alan Permane leads the race operation they both work in.
Motorsport.com's 2026 guide, covering Iliopoulos's Michelin background, his 2016 arrival and his Lawson assignment.

Iliopoulos shares the standard F1 race engineer pay band of £100k-180k ($133k-239k) with Carlo Santi, who engineers Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, and Laura Müller, Esteban Ocon’s engineer at Haas. The band tracks the job, not the driver, so working with a seven-time champion doesn’t lift Santi above it.
Iliopoulos came to F1 from Michelin in 2016 and has worked for the Faenza team ever since, through several changes of name.
Iliopoulos and Pierre Hamelin are the two race engineers among the Racing Bulls staff pages, and they share a band. The team’s senior figures earn far more. CEO Peter Bayer and chief technical officer Tim Goss are on £500k-2m ($663k-2.7m), and team principal Alan Permane’s band starts higher still.
Liam Lawson’s race engineer in 2026 is Alexandre Iliopoulos, who’s in his first season in the role at Racing Bulls after joining the team in 2016. In Lawson’s 2023 and 2024 outings for the Faenza team, the engineer on his car was Pierre Hamelin, who now works with Arvid Lindblad.
Alexandre Iliopoulos is Greek. He worked for Michelin, the French tire maker, before joining Toro Rosso in Faenza, Italy, in 2016, and he’s stayed with the same team through its later names. His date of birth and education haven’t been made public.
Yes, Alexandre Iliopoulos worked at Michelin before he moved into F1 with Toro Rosso in 2016. His exact dates and job title at the tire maker haven’t been published. Every season of his F1 career since then has been with the same Faenza team, and 2026 is his first as a race engineer.
Toro Rosso was the name on the door when Alexandre Iliopoulos joined the Faenza team in 2016. He spent the next seasons in trackside and senior performance engineering while the team became AlphaTauri, RB and then Racing Bulls, before his promotion to Liam Lawson’s race engineer.
A base of £100k-180k ($133k-239k) is F1 Salaries’ band for Alexandre Iliopoulos in 2026, the same as for most race engineers. Bonuses of £10k-54k ($13k-72k) would lift his year to £110k-234k ($146k-310k). The team doesn’t disclose his contract, and he has no published net worth.
