How Much Is the Alpine F1 Team Worth?

Team Value
$2.6bn
Joint 7th most valuable team on the grid
2024 Revenue
£238.5m ($316m)
8th highest revenue on the grid
2026 Driver Pay
$18.7m-19.2m
7th biggest driver payroll on the grid
2024 Loss
£14.6m ($19.3m)
3rd biggest loss on the grid

Alpine is worth $2.6bn in PlanetF1’s August 2026 valuation, a little above the $2.45bn Forbes gave it in 2025. It’s a market estimate for the Enstone team, so it isn’t Renault’s wealth or money in the bank, and the reported Mercedes bid that valued Alpine at $2.1bn was only an offer.

The accounts are tighter. BlackBook Motorsport reported £238.5m ($316m) of revenue for 2024 and a £14.6m ($19.3m) loss, a year after £250m ($331m) and a small profit. Forbes’ F1-only model lands close at $300m. Pierre Gasly takes almost all of the $18.7m-19.2m driver bill.

Pierre Gasly’s salary of $18.2m makes him Alpine’s big earner. He signed a three-year deal in September 2025 that runs from 2026 to the end of 2028 and is worth around $54.7m, so he’s committed to Enstone for the first three seasons of Mercedes power.

Franco Colapinto’s salary is $500k-1m on a one-year 2026 contract, and Alpine has already kept him for 2027 on the same money. Alpine’s driver salaries come to $18.7m-19.2m, and Gasly’s base is at least 18 times his teammate’s, the widest ratio on the grid.

Who Owns the Alpine F1 Team?

Renault Group owns 76% of Alpine and controls the team. The other 24% belongs to an investor group led by Otro Capital, which paid €200m ($228m) for it in 2023 with RedBird and Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort.

That deal is why Reynolds is often called an Alpine owner. He’s one of several famous names inside the consortium, along with Rory McIlroy, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce, but none of them holds 24% personally. Bids for that minority block have been reported this year and none has completed, so Renault still has the final say at Enstone.

Alpine and the Enstone Team's Results Over the Years

Alpine has one Grand Prix win of its own, Esteban Ocon’s victory in Hungary in 2021, plus six podiums and 604 points since the rebrand. Count the whole Enstone operation, which began as Toleman in 1981 and later raced as Benetton, Renault, and Lotus, and the record grows to 50 wins, 198 podiums and three constructors’ titles.

Those titles came with Benetton in 1995 and Renault in 2005 and 2006, when Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso each won two drivers’ crowns. Alpine is sixth on 69 points in 2026 after finishing last in 2025.

Alpine Season by Season

Since 1981 counts Toleman, Benetton, Renault from 2002 to 2011, Lotus from 2012 to 2015, Renault from 2016 to 2020 and Alpine, and leaves out Renault's separate works team of 1977 to 1985.

The History of Alpine and the Enstone Team

The Alpine name only dates back to 2021, but the team behind it has raced in F1 under five different names since 1981.

1981-1985

Toleman Origins

Toleman entered F1 in 1981 and is the real root of today’s Alpine, rather than Renault’s separate works team of 1977. Ayrton Senna gave it all three of its podiums in 1984 and Teo Fabi took its only pole in 1985, but it never won a race.

1986-1993

Benetton Becomes a Winner

Benetton took over in 1986 and won that year’s Mexican Grand Prix. The team grew into a regular front runner, settled at Enstone and gave Michael Schumacher his first victory at Spa in 1992, which set up the championship years that followed.

1994-2001

Schumacher Titles and a Takeover

Schumacher won the drivers’ championship in 1994 and 1995, and Benetton took its only constructors’ title in 1995 with 11 wins. Renault bought the team in 2000, although the Benetton name stayed on the cars until the end of 2001.

2002-2011

Alonso and the Renault Doubles

The Renault name returned in 2002 and Fernando Alonso led the team to both championships in 2005 and 2006. Later ownership changes pushed it toward Lotus branding, but the constructor still raced as Renault through 2011.

2012-2015

The Enstone Lotus Years

Racing as Lotus, the team won with Kimi Raikkonen in Abu Dhabi in 2012 and Australia in 2013 and finished fourth both years. The 2014 hybrid switch brought just 10 points. It’s a different outfit from Colin Chapman’s original Lotus.

2016-2020

Renault Rebuilds

Renault came back as a full works team in 2016 and finished ninth. It climbed to fourth by 2018, and three podiums in 2020 closed out the last season before the cars were renamed Alpine.

2021-2024

Alpine Arrives

Esteban Ocon won in Hungary in Alpine’s first season and Fernando Alonso added a podium in Qatar. The team was fourth in 2022, sold 24% to new investors in 2023 and scored a double podium in the wet 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix.

2025-2026

Mercedes Power Takes Over

Alpine finished last in 2025 with 22 points. Mercedes power units replaced Renault’s own for 2026 under a deal that runs until at least 2030, and the team has 69 points and a pole position so far this season.

Alpine F1 Team FAQs

Renault Group owns 76% of the Alpine F1 team and controls it. The remaining 24% sits with an investor group led by Otro Capital, alongside RedBird and Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort, after a €200m ($228m) deal in 2023. Reported bids for that minority stake haven’t gone through.

Ryan Reynolds still holds an indirect stake in Alpine through the consortium that bought 24% of the team in 2023. That 24% is shared across the whole group, so it isn’t his personally. Renault Group owns the other 76%, and fellow investors include Rory McIlroy, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce.

The Alpine F1 team is worth $2.6bn, based on PlanetF1’s August 2026 valuation, up from the $2.45bn Forbes gave it in 2025. It’s a market estimate for the team rather than Renault’s company value, and a reported $2.1bn Mercedes bid was only an offer that never went through.

Alpine made £238.5m ($316m) of revenue in 2024 according to accounts reported by BlackBook Motorsport, and it posted a £14.6m ($19.3m) loss. That was down from £250m ($331m) in 2023, when the team turned a small profit. Forbes’ F1-only model puts 2024 revenue at $300m.

An F1 race mechanic at a team like Alpine earns around $75k a year, while a number one mechanic is nearer $100k and a race engineer about $135k. These are industry benchmarks rather than Alpine’s own pay scale, and pit stop duties don’t come with a separate salary.

Alpine’s 2026 drivers are Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto. Gasly is on an $18.2m base salary and signed until the end of 2028, while Colapinto earns $500k-1m on a one-year deal that’s already been extended for 2027. Gasly accounts for almost the whole driver bill.
