PETRONAS
Mercedes F1 Sponsor

How Much Does PETRONAS Pay Mercedes in F1?
PETRONAS pays Mercedes $80m a year according to RacingNews365, which included the deal in its March 2026 rundown of F1’s biggest sponsors. Neither side has confirmed a fee, and nobody has put a separate price on the fuel and oil PETRONAS supplies. BlackBook Motorsport’s earlier benchmark of up to $75m was on the same scale.
It’s comfortably the biggest deal at Mercedes, where Microsoft comes next at around $60m. Only three title partners are reported higher, and Oracle‘s $110m at Red Bull tops the grid.
The $80m deal equals about 12 hours of PETRONAS's RM266.1bn revenue.

How the PETRONAS Mercedes Title Deal Works
PETRONAS is Malaysia’s state-owned energy group, run from Kuala Lumpur by president and group CEO Tengku Muhammad Taufik. It produces oil and gas and sells fuels and lubricants, and its 2025 revenue came to RM266.1bn with profit after tax of RM45.4bn.
Title rights put its name in the team’s official entry, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. The technical role goes much deeper, because PETRONAS engineers work trackside and take around 150 fuel and lubricant samples before and after races for lab testing. The current multiyear terms started this season, and there’s no public end date.

Why Does PETRONAS Sponsor Mercedes?
Fuel turned into a performance part this year. F1’s 2026 engines burn advanced sustainable fuel, so the blend PETRONAS develops for Mercedes now affects lap time, and what its chemists learn there feeds the oils it sells for road cars.
The results help too. Mercedes led the constructors’ table by 134 points after the Singapore Grand Prix, and Kimi Antonelli and George Russell were first and second among the drivers. PETRONAS says it came into F1 to make itself a global brand, and a car leading the championship with its name in the team title does exactly that.

PETRONAS and Mercedes Sponsorship Questions
PETRONAS pays Mercedes around $80m a year, based on RacingNews365’s March 2026 figures, which makes it the team’s biggest sponsor. That money buys the title name and a technical role supplying fuel and lubricants. Neither company has confirmed the amount or put a value on the products PETRONAS provides.
PETRONAS’ main F1 outlay is its Mercedes title deal, reported at $80m a year in 2026. What it spends developing fuel and lubricants in its own labs sits outside that figure, and the company doesn’t publish its motorsport costs as a separate line in its results.
No end date has been published for the PETRONAS contract. The extension announced in September 2022 is a multiyear agreement that took effect in 2026, and Mercedes framed it around the partnership heading toward two decades. That’s a milestone for the relationship, though, not a confirmed expiry.
Since 2010, PETRONAS has been Mercedes’ title partner, so 2026 is its 17th season with the team. It signed the original five-year deal in 2009 before the Silver Arrows came back as a works team, and before that it spent 15 seasons with Sauber and BMW Sauber.
