Only two F1 chief executives have published pay. Zak Brown received £37.25m ($49.4m) from McLaren Racing in 2024, according to its accounts, and Gernot Döllner was paid €3.22m ($3.7m) for running Audi in 2025, including a €1.72m ($2m) bonus.
Most of the others sit in our £500k-2m ($663k-2.7m) band for corporate executives, including Peter Bayer at Racing Bulls and Philippe Krief at Alpine. Toto Wolff, Laurent Mekies and Mattia Binotto combine the CEO title with running the team, so their pay follows the team principal bands instead.

Lawrence Stroll is the richest person in this group, and he doesn’t take a published salary. As executive chairman of Aston Martin he leads the investor group that has controlled the team since 2018, and he picked Adrian Newey to run it.
His money comes from fashion, through Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger, and Forbes put his net worth at $3.7bn in September 2026.

Stroll, Aston Martin’s executive chairman, is the richest at $3.7bn, ahead of Toto Wolff on $2.7bn. Wolff is chief executive as well as team principal at Mercedes, which is why he’s on this page and the team principals page.
Mattia Binotto and Laurent Mekies hold CEO titles too, with reported net worths of $7m and £1m ($1.3m). These bars show net worth, not pay.
Most F1 chief executives run teams they don’t own. Brown answers to McLaren‘s owners, Bahrain’s Mumtalakat and Abu Dhabi’s CYVN, and Bayer runs Racing Bulls for Red Bull GmbH. Krief works for Renault Group, which owns 76% of Alpine.
The exceptions are owner-operators. Stroll-linked companies hold around 33% of Aston Martin with most of the voting rights, and Wolff’s holding company has a third of Mercedes. Haas is the only team one person owns outright, and that’s Gene Haas.
Aston Martin's announcement of a new minority investor in the team.
Wealth in this group follows ownership, not salary. Stroll’s $3.7bn comes from fashion and the stakes he holds, while the executives who run someone else’s company have no published net worth at all. That includes Brown, despite his £37.25m ($49.4m) year.
Dan Towriss is a harder case. He runs TWG Motorsports and Cadillac’s F1 holding company, but the insurance assets behind Group 1001 belong to the business and its clients, and his own stakes haven’t been published.
Forbes profile that put Lawrence Stroll's net worth at $3.7bn in September 2026.

An F1 chief executive runs the business around the race team. The job covers budgets, sponsorship, commercial deals and the owners’ plans, and often the hiring of the team principal, who looks after the cars and the race operation.
How close they sit to the racing varies. Brown and Bayer lead the company behind a single race team, while Döllner and Krief run car brands for which F1 is one project among many. At Mercedes, Red Bull and Audi, one person holds both jobs.

Lawrence Stroll is the richest CEO-level figure in F1, with a net worth Forbes put at $3.7bn in September 2026. He’s executive chairman of Aston Martin rather than chief executive. Among those with the CEO title itself, Toto Wolff is richest at $2.7bn, thanks to his holding company’s third of Mercedes.
Zak Brown was paid £37.25m ($49.4m) by McLaren Racing in 2024, according to its accounts as reported by RacingNews365. That was up from £26.38m ($35m) the year before, in the season McLaren won its first constructors’ title since 1998. His pay for 2025 and 2026 hasn’t been published.
Gernot Döllner, Audi’s chief executive, earned €3.22m ($3.7m) in 2025. The Volkswagen Group’s remuneration report splits that into a €1.5m ($1.7m) base salary and a €1.72m ($2m) bonus. It’s pay for running the carmaker, and the F1 team is one of the businesses he oversees.
Ryan Reynolds has a share in Alpine through the investor group that bought 24% of the team in 2023. Otro Capital led that €200m ($228m) deal with RedBird and Reynolds’ company Maximum Effort. Renault Group still owns the other 76%, so Reynolds is a small investor rather than an owner.
Toto Wolff doesn’t own any part of Williams now. He invested in the team in 2009 and served as its executive director before leaving for Mercedes in 2013. Dorilton Capital has owned Williams outright since August 2020, when it bought the team from the Williams family.
Racing drivers hold the highest paying jobs in F1, led by Max Verstappen’s reported $70m base salary. Below them come the executives and team bosses. Zak Brown’s £37.25m ($49.4m) in 2024 and Adrian Newey’s package of up to £30m ($39.8m) are the largest figures on record for anyone who doesn’t drive.
