McLaren Net Worth and F1 Team Value
PlanetF1’s August 2026 rankings put McLaren’s worth at $5.2bn, third behind Ferrari and Mercedes, but that figure takes in the whole McLaren Racing business rather than the F1 team alone. Forbes valued the F1 operation by itself at $4.4bn in 2025, and neither number covers McLaren Automotive, the separate road car company.
BlackBook Motorsport’s reporting of the 2024 accounts shows £488.4m ($647m) of F1 revenue inside group turnover of £530.3m ($703m), with a £54.2m ($71.8m) profit after tax. Forbes models the same year at $614m of F1 revenue and $61m of operating profit. Norris and Piastri’s base salaries add up to $43m this season.

Analyst estimate that puts Mastercard at $65m-75m a year and forecasts close to $300m of McLaren sponsorship income in 2026.
Sportico's earlier editions valued McLaren at $1.56bn in 2023 and $2.65bn in 2024 on a different model from Forbes.
Driver pay takes 6.6% of McLaren's revenue, and $61m is left over as profit.

What McLaren Pays Its Drivers

Lando Norris

Oscar Piastri

McLaren’s driver salaries add up to $43m in 2026. Lando Norris’s salary is the bigger share at $30m, in the last year of the three-year, $60m contract he signed in January 2024. The reigning world champion has already agreed a four-year extension from 2027 to the end of 2030 that’s worth up to £120m ($159m).
Oscar Piastri’s salary is $13m this season as his own three-year, $28m deal runs out. He’s extended for 2027 and 2028 at $26m in total, and with bonuses his potential income reaches $40.5m, so McLaren has both drivers tied up well beyond this year.
Projected years come from signed deals, using reported figures where they exist and estimates where they don't. TBC means that seat isn't signed yet.

What Each Point Now Costs Red Bull
McLaren F1 Ownership After the 2025 Buyout
Mumtalakat, Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, and Abu Dhabi’s CYVN own 100% of McLaren Racing, the company behind the F1 team. Mumtalakat is the majority owner and holds control. CYVN’s stake is non-controlling, and neither side has published the exact split.
This two-owner setup dates from September 2, 2025, when they bought out the minority investors who’d come in since 2020, MSP Sports Capital among them. So MSP and the rest are no longer shareholders. Zak Brown is chief executive rather than an owner, and McLaren Automotive, the road car maker, is a separate business.

McLaren Results and Titles Since 1966
McLaren has won 205 Grands Prix and 10 constructors’ titles since its 1966 debut, all under its own name, and its drivers have taken 13 world championships. The high point is still 1988, when it won 15 of 16 races and started a run of four straight team titles.
The 2024 and 2025 crowns ended a 26-year wait and brought 20 wins, with Norris taking the 2025 drivers’ title. The 2007 season counts for wins but not points after the team’s exclusion. This year it’s fourth on 355 points, level with Red Bull but behind it on countback, and both of its wins came from Lando Norris, in Hungary and the Netherlands.

Every McLaren Sponsor in 2026
McLaren History Era by Era
Every McLaren since the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix has carried its founder’s name, even as the owners and engine makers behind the team changed.
Bruce McLaren's Own Team
Bruce McLaren, a New Zealander who’d already won Grands Prix for Cooper, founded the organization in 1963 and took it into F1 at Monaco in 1966. He gave the team its first Grand Prix win at Spa in 1968, then died testing a Can-Am car at Goodwood in 1970.
Fittipaldi and Hunt Win Titles
Emerson Fittipaldi won the 1974 drivers’ championship and McLaren claimed its first constructors’ title in the same season. James Hunt beat Niki Lauda to the 1976 drivers’ crown by a single point, but Ferrari won that year’s constructors’ championship, so McLaren’s second team title had to wait until 1984.
Ron Dennis and TAG Porsche
Ron Dennis took control after his Project Four outfit merged with McLaren, and TAG Porsche engines carried McLaren to the drivers’ and constructors’ double in 1984 and 1985. Niki Lauda beat Alain Prost by half a point in 1984. Prost kept his crown in 1986, although Williams won the constructors’ race.
The Senna and Prost Years
With Honda engines behind them, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost won 15 of the 16 races in 1988. McLaren went on to four straight constructors’ titles through 1991, with Senna winning three drivers’ crowns and Prost one. Ford replaced Honda as engine supplier for 1993.
Mercedes Power and Hakkinen
Peugeot lasted one season in 1994 before Mercedes power arrived in 1995. Mika Hakkinen won the drivers’ title in 1998 and 1999, and the team took the 1998 constructors’ crown with him. McLaren was excluded from the 2007 constructors’ standings, then Lewis Hamilton won the 2008 drivers’ title while Ferrari took the team prize.
The Wins Dry Up
McLaren kept winning races until 2012 and then went eight full seasons without a victory, from 2013 through 2020. Its reunion with Honda between 2015 and 2017 didn’t deliver a single podium, and the team scored just 27 points in 2015 and 30 in 2017.
The Long Way Back
Renault engines ran from 2018 to 2020, and McLaren was back on the podium in 2019 before finishing third in 2020. Mercedes power returned in 2021, when Daniel Ricciardo led Lando Norris home in a Monza one-two that ended the drought. Fifth place in 2022 showed the job wasn’t finished.
Back-to-Back Champions
Nine Grand Prix podiums took McLaren to fourth in 2023. Six wins in 2024 brought its first constructors’ title since 1998, and 14 wins and 833 points retained it in 2025, when Norris became drivers’ champion. That September, Mumtalakat and CYVN became the only owners of McLaren Racing.
The Mastercard Era
The team now races as the McLaren Mastercard F1 Team, with a Mercedes power deal that runs until 2030. After 18 Grands Prix it has two wins, seven podium finishes and 355 points, level with Red Bull but fourth on countback. Its $5.2bn valuation also covers McLaren Racing’s business outside F1.
McLaren Money and Ownership FAQs
McLaren is worth $5.2bn in PlanetF1’s August 2026 rankings, although that covers the wider McLaren Racing business rather than F1 alone. Forbes valued the F1 team by itself at $4.4bn in 2025. Sportico had McLaren at $2.65bn in its 2024 edition, using a different model again.
McLaren’s F1 operation made £488.4m ($647m) of revenue in 2024 in the accounts covered by BlackBook Motorsport, while McLaren Racing as a whole turned over £530.3m ($703m) with a £54.2m ($71.8m) profit after tax. The Mastercard title deal from 2026 is reported at about $100m a year, although Ampere Analysis estimates $65m-75m.
Bahrain’s Mumtalakat and Abu Dhabi’s CYVN own all of McLaren Racing, the company that runs the McLaren F1 team. Mumtalakat is the majority shareholder and has control, while CYVN’s stake is non-controlling. They became the only two owners in September 2025, and the exact split hasn’t been published.
No, Zak Brown doesn’t own part of McLaren. He’s chief executive of McLaren Racing, which is a management role, and the company is owned outright by Mumtalakat and CYVN after they bought out the other shareholders in September 2025. Andrea Stella runs the F1 team day to day as team principal.
The McLaren family doesn’t own the team today. Bruce McLaren founded it in 1963 and died in a testing crash at Goodwood in 1970, and control later passed to Ron Dennis in the 1980s. The founder’s name stayed on the cars, but McLaren Racing now belongs to Mumtalakat and CYVN.
A race engineer at McLaren would earn around $135k a year on the industry benchmark for that role. McLaren doesn’t publish an engineering pay scale, and that figure doesn’t apply to graduate, design or senior technical jobs, which sit on very different pay bands. Number one mechanics are benchmarked at $100k.
Race mechanics at McLaren earn around $75k a year on the industry benchmark, and working the pit stops is part of that job rather than a second salary. Former Red Bull mechanic Calum Nicholas puts typical UK technician pay nearer £60k ($79.5k). McLaren hasn’t disclosed its own mechanic pay.
